LA PANZA is a private residence in Creston, California.

The large property resides at the base of a tall hill in the middle of the vast California hills, providing a quiet and endless scenery and landscape.

Because the house was just recently constructed, the client wanted a landscape plan for their future backyard elements and how the architectural elements, pool, and plants will all work together. Thus, a design was created that gave the client an overall master plan ready for a contractor to move into construction.

The client additionally requested that each plant be fast-growing and low-maintenance. Therefore, the planting palette included mixed grasses, fragrant herbs, shrubs, and succulents, all native plants to California. In addition, the combination of the soft and hard textures of the plants, as well as the various cool colors against the barren landscape, made this palette perfect for enhancing the desert colors while still appearing native.

The design of the backyard intentionally puts the dining and main gathering spaces in the middle of the patio right off the great room, making it the heart of the backyard. With planting dividing the pool on one side and the driveway/airstream on the other, intimacy is still provided while dividing the areas into their separate areas.

The design was created in collaboration with Brockett Architects/Interiors during the summer of 2024.
