Our current dilemma:
Modern society places little importance on connecting with nature in daily life, even though it has been proven to improve our health, abundance, & joy.
Nature is one of the few universal remedies that can unequivocally help every single person on the planet. When we surround ourselves with nature, our environment becomes cleaner, our minds become calmer, and our bodies become more nourished. We become happier. And these benefits don’t just stop with us - they automatically extend into our communities and our landscapes.
But it does not come easy.
We must intentionally design our lives, spaces, and landscapes to be more interconnected with nature every day. Many of us forget this during our busy, fast-paced, distracted lives.
A great place to start crafting a healthier, slower, and more nature-oriented lifestyle is by simply adding plants to your home and investing in your daily surroundings. However, in order to build a long-lasting and foundational lifestyle change, we cannot solely focus on our backyards.
We must look at how all our environments aim to support our growth, including our mental, social, systemic, and bodily environments.
The people we surround ourselves with, the activities we participate in, the health of the body we inhabit, the institutional systems we value, and even the thoughts we tell ourselves all impact our well-being. They all work synergistically; one cannot flourish when another is frail.
My writings page is where I aim to share simple design, mindfulness, and nature-oriented strategies to help you transform your daily surroundings & lifestyle into one that actually brings you joy. As Ross Gay, a beloved poet and gardener, says, “without [joy], we cannot speak meaningfully about our longings for a more just world, a more whole existence for all.”
We must prioritize the intentional cultivation of our immediate surroundings to bring us closer to ourselves and nature. We must let our inner and outer landscapes lead.
You are the sum of what you surround yourself with.
Build surroundings that truly feel good.
